Upcoming Providing Support Courses
The Salvation Army will be having two courses for those interested in providing support during a disaster.
Both courses take place at The Salvation Army 507 N Humphreys St
Incident Command System Thursday April 28 8:00-5:00
The Incident Command System (ICS) training course provides participants with an orientation to the Incident Command System (ICS). ICS is a management tool used by The Salvation Army and other emergency responders to command, control and coordinate disaster relief operations. In this course you will learn about some of the key roles and responsibilities of Salvation Army disaster workers and how they work together to support one another during an emergency. While there are many similarities between The Salvation Army’s version of ICS and that used by other agencies, there are also differences. After completing this course, you will be familiar with The Salvation Army’s ICS.
Emergency Assistance in Disaster Operations Thursday May 5 8:00-5:00
This course is designed to train disaster workers and social service personnel to serve as casework specialists during a disaster operation. The concepts introduced in this course are considered fundamental to more advanced disaster social service training. Participants are taught practical skills such as how to best interview disaster survivors and complete standardized assistance forms. Participants are also taught how to determine a survivor’s eligibility for assistance and how that emergency assistance is delivered. The course provides an overview of other disaster assistance programs and how The Salvation Army fits into an overall sequence of service delivery with other disaster response agencies. Topics covered include the following:
Unit 1: Understanding Emergency Assistance
Unit 2: Communicating with People in Crisis
Unit 3: Helping Those In Need
Unit 4: Partnering With Other Agencies
