Northland Family Help Center Meeting

Challenges of COVID-19 with Your Help

When every day is wall-to-wall coronavirus coverage, you forget that there are other emergencies and hardships – ones that predated the pandemic – that continue to affect the lives of northern Arizonans.
Domestic violence. Child abuse. Crime.
Which is why we are so pleased to report that your donations are a big reason why the Northland Family Help Center (NFHC) is continuing to fulfill its mission to provide a safe haven, advocacy, counseling and educational resources to promote and restore healthy relationships.
NFHC was recently awarded $20,000 from the United Way of Northern Arizona (UWNA) COVID-19 Fund, which is helping with the increased operational costs caused by the outbreak.
Things like more money being spent on groceries in the NFHC domestic violence and youth shelters, as clients are staying in for most meals in accordance with social distancing and stay-at-home orders.
Another cost has been computer equipment and an upgraded server so services typically provided in person – such as trauma therapy and legal advocacy – could be moved online.
NFHC has also instituted hazard pay to their staffers who would be most at risk, such as case managers, advocates and facility directors.
We hope you know your generosity is rippling out like a pebble in a pond and Northland Family Help Center is proof of that.
To help protect staff and residents, NFHC received a donation of masks sewn by Threaded Together – a previous COVID-19 Fund recipient. To keep children at the NFHC youth shelter entertained and engaged, the Boys and Girls Club donated “Club on the Go” kits – which were funded in part by the COVID-19 Fund.
This is the silver lining of our pandemic world: kindnesses multiplying; organizations and agencies having each others back during this time of crisis; and you, giving what you can so that organizations like the Northland Family Help Center can continue their vital work.
This is what happens when we Live United.
If you can, please consider a donation to the COVID-19 Fund today.
