Stronger as One presents Free one-hour Mental Health First Aid Training, other programs

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a free 8-hour course that teaches individuals how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training provides the skills needed to provide initial help and support to someone until appropriate professional help or other assistance can be engaged.

Free trainings are held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. the third Friday of each month.

Mental health is all around us, but, what exactly is mental health? Mental health is a person’s general sense of emotional, psychological, and cognitive well-being. Everyone has mental health every day, but it’s often ignored unless something is going seriously wrong. The best way to prevent that is to pay attention to your mental health even when you are feeling okay or even good.

Notice how your mental health is always changing. Yesterday might have been a better day than today, and that’s okay. Part of being human is moving with your emotions, and knowing when something isn’t going exactly how you want it to, check in with yourself, and reach out to your friends and family for help when you need to take some time for your mental health or don’t know what to do.

As we continue through this pandemic, the Stronger As One Coalition is committed to supporting everyone in our community to take care of all of our mental health and wellbeing in the face of elevated stress and uncertainty. Young people in our community have experienced more upheaval than nearly any other group, with disruptions to every facet of life. For that reason, Stronger As One and NACA’s Native Connections are hosting Focus Groups on the impact of COVID-19 on mental health and wellbeing of youth in our community.  At the end of last year we hosted teens, this round focuses on individuals ages 18-24.

This event is free and open to the public, with prizes hidden throughout the community, and is open to all ages.
