PUSD superintendent earns high marks

Prescott Unified School District Superintendent Joe Howard is heading into his third year as this city’s top educator — and he is just as enthusiastic as ever about living the motto, “Every Child, Every Day.”

The PUSD Governing Board on (June 26) night delivered Howard his official evaluation, one conducted in an almost hourlong, closed-door session. No public document was issued as a result of the session.

Prescott Unified remodels leadership to propel broader vision. More education stories here

With a new vision for kindergarten through grade 12, Prescott Unified School District Superintendent Joe Howard announced this week an administrative “remodel” that will move three principals and two assistant principals into new positions for the 2018-2019 school year.

“This is about taking the positive leadership skills our folks have and where we can use them best in the district,” Howard said. “Our focus is to look at people’s strengths and take those strengths and experiences, to look at the district in a more K-12 way.”

Prescott Unified School District will have some special guests touring its schools next month.

The six visitors are national educational professionals who will be chatting with teachers, administrators, parents and students about everything from what they think about the food in the cafeteria to the protocols for college placement courses and teaching little ones to read.

New grant helps Discovery Gardens Preschool grow

Prescott Unified School District’s Discovery Gardens Preschool was recently awarded a $143,000 grant by the Arizona Department of Education. This grant will help the District’s Quality First accredited preschool grow by 30 more four-year-old students this coming school year.

According to Discovery Gardens’ Director, Stacy Williams, the grant helps pay for staff and supplies to provide free preschool to qualifying students.

“We are thrilled to have been awarded this funding and provide quality preschool for more students,” said Williams.
