Mount Elden Middle School renovation begins. See local education news here

With the crash, crunch and squeal of a yellow excavator, prowling and chomping down like a starved creature, the first phase of the Mount Elden Middle School renovation began.

It took just over an hour Wednesday morning for the excavator to demolish the 40-year old modular building holding the school’s 600-wing: puncturing the roof like a balloon, crumpling walls as easily as paper and pulling out wires until they snapped.

Everyone is welcome to attend a “Celebration of After School Learning” at Killip Elementary School, 2300 East 6th Ave. in Flagstaff, AZ on May 25, 2017 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM starting in the school’s cafeteria. There will be delicious and interesting food and tea made from plants grown in the Killip school garden at this event. A bat house, bird nesting shelves, and hopper bird feeders that students designed and built will be on display. Students will provide on campus tours of Killip Garden and Luna Park. There will be games and activities for children to see and do. This event is free and open to the public. Come and see the positive impact of after school programs at Killip Elementary School in the Flagstaff Unified School District on May 25, 2017!

A group of Coconino High School and Flagstaff Arts and Leadership Academy students and local artists are raising funds to put girls around the world in classroom chairs by building, decorating and auctioning off … chairs.

Each student or artist or group can either build a chair or redecorate an old chair. The chairs are auctioned off each year at the Coconino Center for the Arts. The funds raised by the Chairs for Change auction go to different nonprofit groups that support education for young women and girls in countries across the world.

Engineering. and Math) Network development project into the school. This grant will provide the resources and metrics needed to improve educational outcomes for the students.
