Southwest Native-American Foundation scholarship applications due May 1. See more local education news here

Applications for the Southwest Native-American Foundation’s scholarships are due by May 1 to the foundation’s headquarters in Boulder, Colorado.

The foundation, a donor-funded nonprofit, offers scholarship to outstanding Native American high school and college students in the Southwest. Previously, it has awarded scholarship funds to future students of Northern Arizona University, the University of Arizona, Grand Canyon University and Coconino College, among others.

The community is invited to the Northern Arizona University Walkup Skydome Friday, from 9 a.m- 4 p.m., for the 10th annual Undergraduate Symposium – a campus wide celebration of student achievement. More than 1,000 students from across all colleges will come together to share their creative discoveries and present in-depth research and scholarly work to their peers, professors, and the university and Flagstaff communities.

Anyone can nominate a teacher that they think is excellent.

The Coconino County Superintendent’s Office is committed to supporting and improving educator quality by creating conditions for teachers to flourish. This Recognition Event highlights exemplary teachers while initiating a new conversation around the foundation for a transformative educational system. If we truly want a world-class educational system, we must honor exceptional teachers.

A passion for teaching: Williams kindergarten teacher Natalie Mann named finalist for Coconino County Teacher of the Year

WILLIAMS, Ariz. – Many know her as a kindergarten teacher. Or some may recognize her from the food bank. Or wasn’t she the woman serving food at the community dinner?

Natalie Mann is no stranger to the community of Williams. She is not content just teaching her students and going home. She believes in reaching the whole child, seeing where they live and being a part of their lives, and for this reason she has been selected as one of three finalists for Coconino County Teacher of the Year.
