Support of Arizona Grandparents Ambassadors

| September 26, 2016

More than 160 participants joined Children’s Action Alliance and Arizona Grandparent Ambassadors for the fifth annual Grandparents Summit in Phoenix, an event hosted to bring grandparents raising grandchildren together to network, learn about public policy changes and other issues. The event was a huge success, with a panel of public policymakers, including state senator David Bradley and representatives Kate Brophy-McGee and Jeff Weninger. The three elected officials were joined by Christina Corieri, senior health policy adviser to Governor Ducey.

Grandparents took the opportunity to ask questions and offer their own suggestions on how to build a stronger support system in Arizona for kinship families.Attendees also participated in workshops and were given tips on how to better access mental health services for grandkids in their care, more effectively help children dealing with trauma and get legal guidance on preparing estate documents to ensure their custodial grandchildren are protected. Additionally, they took time to write to Arizona Sen. John McCain, urging support for the Family First Prevention Act, a measure in Congress that would help keep children with families nationwide.

The Arizona Grandparent Ambassadors are a statewide network of grandparents raising their grandchildren. For a copy of the grandparents raising grandchildren resource document, click here. To join, click here.
