| September 7, 2015

Protective Factor: Concrete Support in Times of Need
Protective Factor: Children’s Social and Emotional Competence
Presented by Michelle Simmons & Lucy Garcia

Strengthening Families™ is a research-based approach to working with families in a way that develops and enhances their strengths. It is based on engaging families, programs and communities in building five protective factors: Parental resilience; Social connections; Knowledge of parenting and child development; Concrete support in times of need; and Social and emotional competence of children.

This training will delve into the Concrete Support in Times of Need protective factor. Participants will discuss examples of how to provide welcoming, non-judgemental support to families, brainstorm ways to better connect families to resources, and learn to recognize the early signs of child maltreatment.

This training will explore Children’s Social and Emotional Competence as a protective factor. Participants will be able to list characteristics of children who are emotionally healthy and demonstrate strong social skills, learn ways to promote the social and emotional growth of children, and recognize how this protective factor is linked to preventing child maltreatment.

This training will be useful for providers, parents, caregivers, foster parents, and anyone working with children and families.
