Resources for high-quality, informal STEM programming 
SciTech Institute Resource Directory Needs STEM Activities for At-Home Learning
 
SciTech Institute launched its new online STEM Resource Directory designed to help parents find quality educational resources and support students learning at home. To assist families in navigating the web to locate STEM resources for online learning, they developed a comprehensive Resource Directory compiling the educational opportunities in a single place, organized clearly by audience and topic. The directory offers families access to a wealth of engaging content in an easy-to-navigate format that is fun to search and explore.

They are now working to procure more activities to further enhance the directory and keep it fresh and current. That’s where you come in. 

They have made it easy for you to submit your resources to be included in the directory. Simply visit the Resource Directory page, click on “Submit a Resource” and fill out the form with your information. 

 
Don’t have a resource to share? Check it out anyways! There are some great activities and tools for out-of-school time programs to engage in STEM. 
Afterschool Coaching for Reflective Educators in STEM
 
The ACRES Project through Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance (MMSA) has many new opportunities for you! ACRES supports afterschool professionals as they engage youth in person and/or virtually. Their live, interactive virtual sessions offer you the headspace to reflect on, practice, and learn new skills. ACRES helps connect you with others doing similar work. 
 
 
If meeting with a live, virtual cohort doesn’t align with your schedule this summer, check out MMSA’s COVID-19 resources, which include videos of Zoom in action along with tips and tricks for distance education.
New Report Shows Severe Loss of Capacity for Outdoor and Environmental Science Education

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, leaders have stressed the opportunity for families to get outside and learn more about their natural surroundings. The opportunities to observe migratory patterns of birds, grow fruits and vegetables at home or in community gardens, and simply learn more about the natural flora and fauna in your neighborhood have been starker since so many students and families were required to stay at home. But while many of us have found comfort or escape in the outdoors during these times, those responsible for leading education programs for children and families have experienced the severe financial impact of school closures and social distancing requirements. A new report released by UC Berkeley’s Lawrence Hall of Science shows just how devastating the pandemic has been on outdoor and environmental science education organizations.
