New Rec on Wheels Program Brings Play and Fun to Rural Coconino County Communities
Coconino County Parks and Recreation (CCPR) and Health and Human Services (CCHHS) have teamed up to provide Rec on Wheels, a new program that brings recreation opportunities, especially for youth, to the rural and outlying communities in Coconino County. Events are free to the public and include games, drop-in programming, and even movies.
CCPR and CCHHS obtained a grant which allowed for the purchase of a variety of recreation equipment, including sporting goods, yard games, board games, a portable mini golf set, and an outdoor movie projector. These items are transported in the Rec on Wheels trailer, which includes a solar generator and power bank to support programming.
The launch of Rec on Wheels occurred May 6, 2023, at Louise Yellowman County Park in Tuba City. Nearly 100 people enjoyed the recreational opportunities provided to the community. The next event is scheduled for Monday, June 5 at Peaks View County Park. More programs will be available throughout the summer and will be promoted prior to the events on CCPR’s Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/coconinoparksandrec.
