New push to educate kids before elementary school

TUCSON — Educators say if you prepare a child for kindergarten, that investment will last a lifetime of good for the child and good for the community where he or she will live and work.

The Brichta Infant and Early Childhood Learning Center is one of two in the Tucson Unified School District. The other is Schumaker Infant and Early Childhood Learning Center.

The schools closed but reopened as early learning centers in July 2014. They already have waiting lists for the infant and toddler programs.

The pre-kindergarten programs are still open to new students. It’s not daycare, but a learning environment. Though it’s only about six months old, the district’s program has won an “Expect More Arizona” award.
