April 7, 8, 10 — Stronger As One Coalition mental health focus group for youth 18-24

| April 4, 2021

By Stronger as One

As we continue through this pandemic, the Stronger As One Coalition is committed to supporting everyone in our community to take care of all of our mental health and wellbeing in the face of elevated stress and uncertainty. Young people in our community have experienced more upheaval than nearly any other group, with disruptions to every facet of life. For that reason, Stronger As One and NACA’s Native Connections are hosting Focus Groups on the impact of COVID-19 on mental health and wellbeing of youth in our community.  At the end of last year we hosted teens, this round focuses on individuals ages 18-24.

Those who participate are helping inform our work to support them during this difficult time and will receive a gift card for coffee or Sprouts!

  • We are looking for people ages 18-24 to participate in any one of our 1-hour focus groups. Please share this opportunity with any who may be interested!

We will ask the same questions in each of these groups to accommodate as many participants as we can.

What is a Focus Group? A small group of people whose opinions about something (ex. Mental Health) are studied to learn the opinions of a larger group.

Our Goal: To gain better understanding of teen and young adult mental health during COVID-19 directly from teens and young adults!

Next Steps: Offer more effective programs to support teens and young adults using this information, and use the information given to help create a community needs assessment.

Stronger As One is a values driven coalition based in Coconino County, committed to promoting a culture of knowledge, compassion, and action for mental health and wellbeing, and preventing suicide in our community. Our commitment is to engage honestly, respectfully, and with trust for each other and our service organizations so that our collaborative work may help all.

Native Americans for Community Action, Inc. (NACA) Native Connections Program will work in collaboration with community youth, young adults, families, elders and community leaders alongside local youth serving agencies in the Flagstaff area. This program will collaboratively design a plan of action that will include improvements to the local mental health/behavioral health system in an effort to reduce suicidal behavior and substance use and the impacts of trauma along with the promotion of mental health well-being among Native American youth through 24 years of age.

If you are unable to make these dates but would still like to participate, please email kfarretta@coconino.az.gov
