Read-On Flagstaff (ROF) Program Coordinator

PART-TIME POSITION (approximately 15-20 hours per week)
Salary Range $14-$16 per hour depending on experience

Summary:

  • The SNA Program Coordinator is responsible for the skill development, task achievement and work performance of the Family Literacy Coaches (Coaches) providing services on behalf of the United Way of Northern Arizona’s (UWNA) Read On Flagstaff project. The Program Coordinator will also provide direct/in-home family literacy coaching services to families in the Greenlaw area (or other areas as assigned).
  • The Coaches work with interested families throughout the Sunnyside, Greenlaw and Southside communities to develop home and community environments of learning and literacy.
  • The Program Coordinator, as stated in the Agreement between UWNA and SNA, will assist the Coaches in achieving the objectives of the Read On Flagstaff Project pertaining to engaging families with young children (up to the age of 8) in ways they can strengthen cultures of literacy in their home environments.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the Sunnyside Neighborhood Association of Flagstaff, Inc.’s Executive Director, the ROF Program Coordinator recruits and hires qualified Family Literacy Coaches to provide home-based child and family literacy development services; communicates and reinforces work expectations and responsibilities to the Coaches while providing performance evaluation and feedback.
  • Structures, coordinates and oversees the delivery of coaching services to families in targeted neighborhoods; collaborates with the UWNA Literacy Project Coordinator to develop and oversee the training and professional development of the Coaches.
  • Maintains communication with the UWNA Literacy Project Coordinator concerning the progress made by the Literacy Coaches with the children and families being served.
  • Works with the UWNA and its evaluator to collect data and assess program effectiveness.
  • Documents progress by maintaining accurate and complete records; prepares and submits monthly program and quarterly expenditure reports to the UWNA Manager of Education Initiatives.
  • Ensures Coaches promote awareness of and make referrals to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, KinderCamp™ and other resources for children and families; help in identifying informal care providers in the targeted neighborhoods.
  • Is aware of and communicates community issues and needs to the UWNA Literacy Project Coordinator and other UWNA staff as appropriate.
    Performs other tasks mutually agreed to that pertain to the targeted neighborhoods, the work of the Coaches, and engagement of targeted families in their children’s literacy development.
  • In coordination with Sunnyside Neighborhood Association and UWNA, assists with public speaking and opportunities to inform the public about the ROF project and collaborative work; educates various audiences about the importance of children’s early learning.

Educational and Skill Requirements:

  • An Associates Degree in a related field or direct (work) experience (minimum of 2 years) in an educational (P-12) or Literacy setting.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and an intuitive listener
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Sufficient computer competency, working skill set for Word and Excel

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience planning and facilitating meetings, working with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Report writing, project administration and evaluation experience.
  • Interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution, crisis intervention, and consensus building.
  • Representational and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to work unsupervised for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to complete detailed work-long on a weekly-basis.
