LAUNCH Flagstaff — Update on our Progress in 2020

| November 3, 2020

Thank you for supporting our kids!

Improving educational outcomes for the children of Flagstaff takes an entire community.  That’s why I am grateful for your engagement in the LAUNCH Flagstaff partnership.

Over the next several emails, I’d like to bring you up to speed on LAUNCH Flagstaff and our collaborative action toward improving equitable access to world-class educational opportunities for every child in our community.

Our effort is grounded in these three mutually agreed upon statements:

  1. We believe that every child in Flagstaff deserves equitable access to world-class educational experiences from cradle through their career.
  2. We believe that world-class education is student focused and student led.
  3. We believe that we have the resources, talent and will in our community to improve educational outcomes for all of our children.

Flagstaff has many good educational organizations and programs that work hard to educate our children and prepare them for success in life.  However, these programs have historically lacked a coordinated infrastructure of community-based supports focused on enhancing their effectiveness.  The creates the condition where organizations often work in silos, competing for the same resources.
The data show that this lack of infrastructure has created opportunity gaps and disparities that prevent all of our kids from reaching their full potential.  These disparities have worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Changing these conditions will take persistent, collaborative effort over time and that’s where LAUNCH Flagstaff shines.
LAUNCH Flagstaff is foremost an idea of how existing community organizations, businesses, and policy makers can achieve a greater impact through improved collaborative action.

This is how we do it:

LAUNCH Flagstaff is also an entity, which provides services like convening and impartial facilitation for subject matter experts and community leaders working toward that collaborative action.

Our work is focused on the greater Flagstaff area, which is the ancestral land of the Diné, Hopi, Havasupai, Kaibab-Paiute and Hualapai peoples.

We support educators in all schools of the Flagstaff area, from early childhood through university, by leveraging the capacity of existing organizations and businesses in the non-education sectors.
Equity is the context from which we will improve access to world-class educational experiences for every child in the Flagstaff area – the goal of LAUNCH Flagstaff.

The fundamental changes to daily life in response to the COVID-19 pandemic give our entire community the opportunity to re-think how we educate our children and how we support those educators.
Improvements toward this goal will over time be evident in the following shared educational benchmarks:

With your help, we can make a difference in the educational outcomes for every child in Flagstaff.
In my next email, I’ll explain how we are making that collective impact.
