LAUNCH Flagstaff update for April

| April 4, 2018
March may have been Flagstaff’s time for a spring break, but many of the partners of LAUNCH Flagstaff were hard at work advancing world-class education for every child from cradle through career.

Read more below about the progress we’ve made over the past month.

LAUNCH Flagstaff Partners Begin KDI Training

The start of teacher training on Arizona’s new Kindergarten Developmental Inventory (KDI) for the LAUNCH Flagstaff collaborative was originally scheduled for last month, but February snow forced a postponement until this past week.

Teachers from Killip Elementary, Marshall Elementary, Mountain School, PEAK School, and Secrist Elementary began training on the new K-3 educational tool on Tuesday March 27th. They will continue their training through the spring semester and pilot the implementation of the KDI in their classrooms this fall.

Administrators participating in the multi-LEA (local education agency) collaboration were orientated to the KDI in January of this year.

The KDI is being implemented by the Arizona Department of Education. The tool being used was developed by Teaching Strategies, an educational company with deep experience in curriculum and instruction in early education.

Dual Enrollment Expands for High School StudentsThere will be more dual enrollment (DE) classes for Flagstaff area high school students to take this fall. This is the result of new collaboration between Coconino Community College, CAVIAT-JTED, Northland Preparatory Academy, and Flagstaff Arts and Leadership Academy.

Memoranda are being finalized between the organizations to add dual enrollment qualified courses in calculus at Northland Prep and English at FALA starting in fall 2018. This helps advance LAUNCH Flagstaff’s goal of increasing the percentage of students who participate in DE courses while in high school, a contributing indicator for improving the percentage of students enrolling in post-secondary education and training after graduation.

Baseline Community Report Goes to Print

The LAUNCH Flagstaff Baseline Community Education Report, released in February 2018 will be printed in hard copy thanks to financial support from The NARBHA Institute and the printing services of APS.

500 high-quality spiral bound copies will be printed for distribution around Flagstaff in addition to being available on-line for reading and on-going reference as we move forward in our collective impact on improving educational outcomes for every child.

The printed reports will be used as needed during presentations to Flagstaff area organizations, boards, and councils as part of our plan to communicate with as many stakeholders as possible about the current state of education and the collective work we have ahead of us.

You don’t have to wait until the report is printed to read it.  It’s available on the LAUNCH Flagstaff website.  Click the button to read it now

Data Team Setting Groundwork For Future Data Use

The volunteer subject-matter experts of the LAUNCH Flagstaff Data Team are planning for future organizational capacity for data gathering, analysis and support for the collective impact of the partnership and community wide data collaboration. They plan to continue their discussion and analysis over the coming months and prepare a report to the LAUNCH Flagstaff Steering Committee for June 2018.
