Helios, ASU effort to ensure Latino student success, economic growth

Helios Education Foundation is pleased to share this video highlight from a recent gathering entitled Arizona’s Economic Imperative: Ensuring Latino Student Success, featuring Dr. Michael Crow, president of Arizona State University.

At Helios Education Foundation, we believe that every student, regardless of zip code, deserves a high quality education, and especially those students from under-served and under-represented populations.

Latinos represent the fastest growing segment of the state’s population and the largest proportion of students in our K-12 public schools.

Yet, Latino student graduation rates trail that of their White peers.

According to Georgetown University’s Center on Education and the Workforce, by 2020 65 percent of all jobs in the economy will require some form of postsecondary education and training beyond high school.

Arizona’s coming demographic shift combined with alarming student achievement gaps and low postsecondary degree attainment rates make Latino student success an economic imperative for Arizona.
