Happy Holidays from TLC!

We here at TLC would like to wish you all happy holidays, and thank you all for your support! We have had a very successful reopening, and have been able to host workshops on technological and financial literacy in addition to our regular course schedule. In this newsletter, you will find updates about our Raising Readers program, our general programs, the Storybook Path, and the events we have hosted this year.

To give our staff time to enjoy the holidays, we will be closed on December 20th and will reopen on January 3rd. Please look for information regarding our upcoming events which include:

December 20th, 21st, & 22nd – Harry Potter Holiday Storytime
January 11th – Financial Literacy Workshop: Identity theft
March 2022 – Donor appreciation event
Spring 2022 – Storybook Path unveiling & celebration
May 2022 – Volunteer appreciation event

Stay tuned for more information about the 2022 spelling bee.

Updates on TLC’s Programs & Events

Raising Readers

This past year we were able to expand into three elementary schools: Sechrist, Thomas, and Kinsey, and since the start of the program in September, we have seen significant growth in the reading scores of the students! We will continue this program in January and expand it to include more children.

Volunteer Appreciation

We were finally able to show our appreciation to our wonderful volunteers with a small event at TLC! We celebrated with pizza, cookies, cupcakes, champagne, and soda. We will host another volunteer appreciation event in May 2022.

Read between the Wines & Donor Appreciation

We were able to host our annual Read between the Wines event at Viola’s Gardens in beautiful fall weather. Many of our donors and supporters were able to join us in drinking wine to support literacy! We will host this event again in October 2022.

Other Programs

We have also seen success with our learners in our one-on-one programs as well as those taking our courses. This year, a learner has gotten his license, another has found housing, and another has applied for citizenship!

Our Storybook Path is also up at Sawmill Park and will be officially unveiled and celebrated in Spring 2022.
