As students around the city crammed for final exams, five Flagstaff Arts and Leadership Academy students prepared for a graduation party, 3,000 miles away.

FALA art teacher Janeece Henes led the group of students to El Sauce, Nicaragua for about a week of service projects and experiential learning in the country.

Henes serves on the board of One New Education, a Flagstaff nonprofit that raises money to provide scholarships to girls around the world. During the Nicaragua trip, the group would meet one of the recipients and celebrate her graduation from high school.
