Expect More Arizona is Seeking a Community Mobilizer Position

Background: Expect More Arizona (EMA) is a nonpartisan education advocacy organization building a movement dedicated to world-class education for all Arizona students. EMA accomplishes this work by raising public awareness through communications and outreach; educating parents, voters and community members about the education system and important reforms; and leading advocacy efforts that are central to building a world-class education in Arizona.

Position Summary:  The Community Mobilizer plays a critical role in building the movement to support a world-class education by serving as the primary representative of Expect More Arizona in Northern Arizona. The Community Mobilizer is responsible for building and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships that advance the movement and engage key target audiences in supporting EMA’s priority initiatives.  The Community Mobilizer accomplishes his/her work through relationship development, recruiting and managing volunteers, providing presentations and trainings, distributing materials, and creating and implementing plans to engage community-level partners.

Position Type: Full time with benefits


  • Serve as the primary representative and relationship builder for Expect More Arizona with local communities in designated region
  • Build Expect More Arizona’s presence by attending community events and serving on community councils, committees, taskforces, etc.
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships with education and leadership groups including non-profits, Arizona school districts, community colleges, universities and the business community
  • Recruit and train volunteers to increase awareness of key education issues and build support among their peers for Expect More Arizona’s priority campaigns.
  • Manage a diverse network of engaged individuals and organizations that can inform, support and help implement our work
  • Develop and implement family and voter outreach strategies for Expect More Arizona’s campaigns
  • Fulfill contractual grant requirements and submit reporting as needed
  • Support the development of local media relationships and connect Expect More Arizona as needed
  • Participate in developing presentation materials, which educate, inform and engage target audiences
  • Participate in developing and implementing evaluation tools to ensure effective outreach
  • Document the outcome of outreach work in designated communities and effectively track campaign product
  • Manage the scheduling and tracking of events, presentations and participants
  • Create and execute community events as needed
  • Manage distribution of Expect More Arizona materials to include collateral and other giveaways
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills & Abilities Requirements:

  • Ability to conceptualize, develop and implement community outreach and relationship cultivation strategies
  • Motivated self-starter with ability to work independently
  • Experience in recruiting and managing volunteers
  • Experience working with boards and/or committees
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Ability to develop and manage budgets
  • Team player
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products

Other Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social work, public affairs, communications, marketing or related field.
  • Minimum 2 – 4 years professional experience in nonprofit, community building, outreach, or other relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of education issues is desired, but is not required.
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license, proof of auto insurance coverage, and daily access to personal vehicle.
  • Ability to travel around the state.
  • Availability outside of typical 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. workday, as necessary.
  • Able to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Spanish language proficiency preferred.
