Education Spending in Arizona Fails to Make The Grade

Education Week just released its annual report called Quality Counts 2015. One of the items that the report examines is per-pupil expenditures for K-12 education for every state. The per pupil expenditures are adjusted for regional cost differences. The report uses the latest national data which is available for 2012. Arizona maintained its low ranking coming in at 48th place with 47 other states spending more per pupil. Only Idaho and Utah spent less per pupil than Arizona. Arizona expenditures were at $8,101 per pupil which was $3,634 below the U.S. average of $11,735. This placed Arizona’s per-pupil amount at 69% of the U.S. average. Quality Counts gave Arizona a grade of F for our state’s level of education spending.
