“Where do you believe kids belong?”

For those attending the 2018 annual meeting of the Coconino Coaltion for Children & Youth, the answer on an instant poll powerfully appeared on the screen — Family, Safe Environment, Home, Community, Caring Family…

Members of Child & Family Support Service (CFSS) provided those in attendance with something to ponder as the community continues to look for new options to meet the needs of children and families in the region.

The presentation: “What will it take? Creating opportunities for healing and managing risks in community-based care,” touched on such topics finding alternatives to the way we work with youth as they age out of the foster care system.

“If we don’t change the direction we’re going, we’re likely to end up where we’re headed.” — Chinese proverb

The presentation provided information on access to hope, relationships, skills, physical wellbeing and enjoyable activities, helping teens to succeed through the use of the 40 Developmental Assets program and understanding a child’s journey.

“People begin to heal the moment they start to feel heard.”

The annual meeting, which included a photo year-in-review presentation, was held May 21 at the Flagstaff Medical Center’s McGee Auditorium.
