FLAGSTAFF — As the Flagstaff Festival of Science prepares to go To the Moon and Beyond during its 30th anniversary season, the W. L. Gore & Associates Keynote Presentation featuring Apollo 16 astronaut General Charlie Duke at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 20, is sold out for seating in Northern Arizona University’s Ardrey Auditorium. In an effort to make Duke’s talk as accessible as possible, the Festival is live-streaming the keynote for the first time ever on YouTube and creating overflow space in NAU’s nearby Kitt Recital Hall, where the presentation can be viewed on two screens.

CCC&Y to hold next monthly board meeting on Sept. 16

The Coconino Coalition for Children & Youth will hold its next monthly board meeting from noon to 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16 at the County Health and Community Services Building, 2625 N. King St., Ponderosa Room, Flagstaff.

Erica Quintana from the Morrison Institute for Public Policy is scheduled to present on the “Strong Families Thriving Children,”  background report. CCC&Y contributed to the report.

The founders of Speak Up Stand Up Save a Life are also scheduled to present on their 2020 Youth Conference.

From ping pong toss games followed by exercise for children, to a rock climbing wall, line dancing and a trip around the park via a Kiddie Caboose, hundreds of families came to Bushmaster Park in Flagstaff to enjoy a variety of activities at the annual FACTS “Lights On” Festival held on Sept. 7, 2019.

Expect More Arizona — Northern Arizona University’s Civic Service Institute has engaged AmeriCorps members in the Arizona Ready for College and Career (ARCC) program

This program pairs NAU AmeriCorps volunteers with students across Arizona to help with post-high school planning and career exploration. They provide FAFSA workshops, meet 1-on-1 with students, and help with scholarship and college applications. Many pursue traditional college, while others will continue on to technical/trade schools or certification programs.

safeTALK — FREE Suicide Prevention Training to be held Sept. 11 in Flagstaff

safeTalk, a free Suicide Prevention Training, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Sept. 11 at the Flagstaff Aquaplex, 1702 N. 4th St., Flagstaff.

safeTalk is a half-day alertness session that prepares anyone, regardless of prior experience or training, to become a suicide-alert helper. Participants will learn how to apply the TALK steps (Tell, Ask, Listen, and KeepSafe) to connect people with thoughts of suicide to life-saving intervention resources, such as caregivers trained in ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training).
