What is Child Abuse?
Child abuse can be any physical, sexual, emotional, and psychological abuse on a child. All types of child abuse leave lasting scars and can affect a child’s sense of trust, self-esteem and ability to control his or her emotions and behaviors.

Signs of Child Abuse
While it is difficult to label one thing or another as a definitive sign of child abuse, keep an eye out for changes in developmental, behavioral, physical, sexual and psychological behaviors.

The Facts
  • On average, more than five children die every day as a result of
    child abuse or neglect
  •  1 in 10 children suffer from child maltreatment, 1 in 16 children suffer from sexual abuse, and nearly 1 in 10 children are witnesses to family violence (Safe Horizon, 2015)
  • Every year more than 3 million reports of child abuse are made in the United States (Fedderson & O’Meara, 2014).
