Keynote Speaker – Tony Smith
“We are the Frontline of COVID Recovery”
Tony Smith, will give insights on how the Out-of-School Time space is key to COVID recovery for our youth, both academically and social/emotionally.
 
Tony is the CEO and co-founder of Whyspeople, providing strategic advising and executive coaching to leaders working to create thriving communities. Most recently Tony served as the Illinois State Superintendent of Education. Prior to serving in that role he was the Executive Director of the W. Clement and Jessie V. Stone Foundation funding early childhood, youth development, and education.
 
Tony has served in leadership roles in the non-profit, higher education, and public PK-12 district sectors including as Superintendent in Emeryville and Oakland, CA. He earned a Ph.D. in Language, Literacy, and Culture from UC Berkeley.
 
Tony is committed to creating healthy public systems that fully develop the whole child, whole school, and whole community. He measures his work by the increase in fair access to quality, the increase in student and adult belongingness, and the increase in equitable student outcomes that improve economic and civic well-being in the community.

DOES YOUR PROGRAM PRODUCE VIDEOS?
Arizona Center for Afterschool Excellence is looking for a youth program that makes videos to help us make our Conference How-To video. The program staff will receive 2 free registrations to attend the conference, and a thank you at the conference in exchange the program’s youth will make a brief video for attendees to learn how to navigate the conference.
 
Back by popular demand: Open Minds, Open Spaces virtual 1 day conference, Friday October 22nd. Pair this professional development opportunity with our in-person conference for a discount or à la carte. Register for it thru the School’s Out, Make It Count Conference link coming in July.

REMINDER: You will need to select the workshops you are going to attend in the Registration Portal. You can register first, then come back and access the Registration Portal to select your workshops at a later date. The July Conference Journal will hit inboxes July 15th.

To honor those who have lost their lives this year, we will have a special in memoriam recognition at this year’s Conference. Arizona’s School’s Out, Make It Count Conference is the largest state-wide conference for OST in the nation. In 2020, it was the largest virtual conference for OST in the entire US.
