Achieve60AZ, College Success Arizona and Expect More Arizona to become one organization

| February 2, 2021

Dear Valued Partner,

As a result of a year of thoughtful consideration among community stakeholders and funders, and with Arizona’s students foremost on our minds, we are excited to announce the next chapter of our continued work. The boards of Achieve60AZ, College Success Arizona and Expect More Arizona have recently voted unanimously to pool resources and teams to become one organization, effective February 1.

This alignment will provide greater clarity and cohesion, will result in an even stronger voice for Arizona’s students and educators, and will provide a more robust platform to advance the goals outlined in the Arizona Education Progress Meter. We are united behind a desire to elevate conversations and action around issues of educational equity and the impact of opportunity gaps on student outcomes. The expanded organization will continue working statewide to advance education outcomes for children and adults across the education continuum, from the early years through college and career.

The next phase for the expanded organization includes an extensive listening tour to hear from diverse voices across Arizona about what is needed for their communities to reach the Education Progress Meter goals, including the attainment goal. Over the next few months, many additional details of the integration, including a new name, will be worked out. The listening tour will help inform everything from the visual brand and naming of the enhanced organization to the strategic direction. In the near term, you will continue to see emails and other content with the Expect More Arizona brand.

An immediate change is the departure of Christine Thompson as president and CEO of Expect More Arizona. She began serving in that role in October 2017, and we are grateful for her leadership and her unrelenting commitment to Arizona’s students and educators. Rich Nickel, the president and CEO of College Success Arizona since 2012, will lead the enhanced organization.

Several Expect More Arizona board members – Immediate Past Chair Tracy Bame, myself, Darcy Renfro, Deanna Salazar, Scott Vanderpool, Shelley Watson – will join the College Success Arizona board. Let us assure you that the critical work of Expect More Arizona will continue in this enhanced organization, in communities across the state and with Expect More Arizona’s many amazing partners. We look forward to continuing to work with you to accelerate meaningful change in education at every level.
