In April of 2013 W. F. Killip Elementary was awarded the Helios STEM School Pilot Grant. Our charge over the next three years is to create a model of education that integrates STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) into Killip’s education system. This model will be documented and shared so other schools across Arizona and the United States can learn from it.
We also know that happy and healthy kids are in a better position to achieve success in life. This requires us to not only maintain a keen focus on our student’s academic development, but through collaboration with Hermosa Vida, a project supported by a $750,000 Kresge Foundation Grant, we promote healthy lifestyles through a variety of physical activities and nutritional programing.
Over the next three years we will be bringing these initiatives together as we develop a model of education designed to meet the needs of a 21st Century workplace and community.
Please join us on January 29th at 5:30 in Killip’s gym as we share and celebrate our vision for this educational model. An evening meal will be provided by Brix, a local restaurant that features the freshest ingredients possible by utilizing the many local farmers and ranchers of Northern Arizona and the Four Corners region.
