Vital Documents for Foster Care Youth

| September 15, 2015

Do You Have Your Vital Documents?

You asked and we listened! Young adults and advocates expressed it is VITAL that youth who have experienced foster care have their personal documents in order to live an independent life. Having a State ID, social security card, medical records, and educational records are essential if you want to do things like apply for a job, enroll in school, or even travel.

If you are a young adult who is in foster care or you know a young person in care, it is their right to have these important documents within 30 days of their 18th birthday. However, for some youth they may not have received these VITAL documents or their records may have been lost or stolen.

Check out our new VITAL Documents resource section for foster youth to learn why these documents are important and how to replace them.  You can also download the document by clicking here!
