Arizona Science Center Launches New Hands-On Teacher Training Program to Enhance Quality of Science Instruction in Arizona

In response to the need to expand access to high-quality professional development for Arizona’s science teachers, Arizona Science Center launched the Science Teacher Residency (STaR) program. This new STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) teacher training program, generously supported by Helios Education Foundation, provides instruction and mentoring to third through eighth grade teachers at no cost to them. The first cohort of teachers began the program last week.

APS Foundation gives AZ Science Center a grant for STEM in rural schools

Arizona Science Center is on a mission to bring an increased focus on STEM subjects to rural Arizona schools through its Rural Communities Expansion Project.

In July, the APS Foundation awarded Arizona Science Center a $385,000 grant to continue the program in Cottonwood, Oak Creek, Humboldt, Winslow, Prescott, Sedona, Buckeye and Florence, and to expand into Yuma schools. Since its inception, the APS Foundation has granted over $1.2 million to this program.
