Introducing Smart Talk

| March 10, 2018

Early language development campaign offers tools and resources for parents, caregivers and educators.

Language and literacy development is the result of ongoing positive experiences that begin the moment a child is born. Responsive, back-and-forth conversation using new and different words will help children become strong readers and succeed in school.

This is the promise of an important campaign call Smart Talk, which was developed by Read On Arizona, a valuable Expect More Arizona partner. Research tells us that a child’s success in school has a lot to do with the quality and quantity of words spoken to the child in the first three years of life. Smart Talk is having quality back-and-forth conversations with a child that are loving and responsive and introduce new words. Smart Talk is designed to help strengthen the skills and confidence of parents and caregivers as they support their child’s learning and development at home. Smart Talk is east to do and anyone can do it  anywhere, anytime. Check out Read on Arizona’s website for more information and tools, including a series of short videos.
