FUSD hopes for ‘swatting’-free finals week

Flagstaff Unified School District officials are hoping for a quiet final week of class following this year’s rash of so-called “swatting” phone calls.

Since March, there have been seven lockdowns prompted by threatening, electronically generated phone calls made to FUSD schools from an unknown number. All the calls turned out to be hoaxes.

“We don’t think this is funny,” said FUSD Communication, Community and Parent Involvement Specialist Karin Eberhard.

She said the calls have been disruptive, but the staff and administration have worked to make school as normal as possible for students.

“Assemblies have been going on as planned,” Eberhard said. “Testing was completed. Finals will go as scheduled. This is a disruption, not a total change in everything.”
