FUSD- Flagstaff Community STEM Celebration — April 2, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

| March 25, 2014

Flagstaff Unified School District (FUSD) invites you to the first Flagstaff Community STEM Celebration at NAU’s J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome.  STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) has become an important part of our community and FUSD is proud to facilitate this inaugural event bringing together nearly all of Flagstaff’s public, charter and private schools for demonstrations of STEM learning.  Sponsors of this event include APS, Suddenlink, Northern Arizona University (NAU) and Flagstaff STEM City.  The Flagstaff Community STEM Celebration is a direct result of the efforts of Flagstaff Forty, community leaders and the proclamation by the Mayor and Flagstaff City Council to make Flagstaff the first STEM City in America.

Lawrence Walkup Skydome at NAU.  Participants in this event will include; all K-12 schools in Flagstaff, Coconino Community College, NAU, STEM businesses and government entities.  Each school will have two tables, one with a static display and one with an interactive activity.  There will be robotics demonstrations including Lego Robotics by elementary and middle schools, as well as the world famous CocoNuts.  Businesses will have displays, activities, and the opportunity to talk to the community members in attendance.

The purpose of this event is to showcase STEM education and business in Flagstaff.  Through this event we hope to educate the community on the STEM emphasis not only in our schools at every level but the opportunities for students once they have graduated high school or college and are entering the workforce.

We expect to have 28 schools represented and over 55 businesses and government agencies.  The attendance for the event is expected to be very large; our goal is to have at least 5,000 attendees including students, parents, and community members.
