Press Release from FUSD:
Come fly way with Peter Pan, Wendy, and the Lost Boys!
Coconino High School Drama presents “PETER PAN AND WENDY”. This is the beloved story of Peter, Wendy, John, Michael, Captain Hook, Smee, the lost boys, pirates, and of course, Tinker Bell, in their adventures in Never Land. It is neither the popular musical version nor the Disney animated recreation. This Douglas Rand adaptation retells the tale of “The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up” in fast-paced, but decidedly classic style, drawing heavily on the original J.M. Barrie stage play. PETER PAN was a work intended for both children and adults full of the joys and wonderment of childhood, but also with the dark fears and bittersweet moments that inhabit our youth and follow us into adulthood.
Veteran student performers Logan Tegler and Paige Dahlke will take flight as Peter Pan and Wendy Darling. Shayla Servis will play Peter Pan’s sworn nemesis, Hook, while Katharine Fisher plays his tightly-wound first mate Smee. Carleigh Vance and Leah Weinzinger will play John and Michael. Combat choreographer Christine Sapio will oversee the swash-buckling swordplay as Peter fights Captain Hook and his crew.
Peter, Wendy, John, and Michael will take to the air thanks to a little fairy dust, happy thoughts, and Flagstaff Aerial Arts instructor Kristi Long, who is also the CHS Drama teacher and the director of the production. All of the production’s special effects are going to wow the audiences, but the flight in particular is going to be awesome. CHS has taken a different approach in finding a solution for the problem of “flying”. Budget did not allow the show to rig the traditional flying apparatus but found the answer to the problem by rigging aerial silks and swings to create the flying effect. The result is magical and so much more exciting then the traditional flying.
This is a great show for all ages, from the young dreamer to the kid-at-heart, and it is sure to bring out the little boy in everyone. Approximately 1000 Flagstaff elementary school children will travel to Neverland during five student performances. The public can enjoy Peter Pan on Friday, May 9th @ 7:30 and Saturday, May 10th @ 2:00 & 7:30. Tickets are $3 for students and children, $5 for adults and will be available at the door.
