Child Welfare News

The Department of Child Welfare released its Strategic Plan yesterday.  It outlines five goals.  They include:

1.  Improve Objective Decision Making at the Hotline and Investigations

2.  Improve performance and quality of service through employee retention

3.  Reduce length of stay for children in out of home care

4.  Reduce recurrence of maltreatment by improving service delivery

5.  Improve capacity to place children in family environments

At the stakeholder presentation meeting yesterday, Director McKay invited community feedback.  You can find the plan here: Strategic Plan

The Auditor General’s office released a supplemental report to the Chapin Hall report released last month.  You can find that here:  Supplemental Report

DON’T FORGET:  DCS Rules public comment

You can find the link to the DCS proposed rules here.  Please take time to read, review, and comment on the proposed rules.  There is a survey on the website that allows you to easily do that.

The DCS Community Advisory Committee will be meeting on August 13th from 3:30 to 5 at the DHS Lab Building, 250 North 17th Avenue. This meeting is open to the public.

The DCS Oversight Committee is tentatively scheduled for August 19th at 9:30 in the House.
