CCC&Y co-sponsoring ‘Teaching in Arizona’ documentary, panel presentation on Oct. 17 in Flagstaff

FLAGSTAFF — The documentary “Teaching in Arizona: Our Future is in the Classroom” will be presented at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17 at the Flagstaff Medical Center, McGee Auditorium, 1200 N. Beaver St., Flagstaff.

Co-hosted by Tucson Values Teachers, LAUNCH Flagstaff and Expect More Arizona, the screening is sponsored by the Arizona Community Foundation, the Coconino Coalition for Children & Youth, Kinney Construction Services, Northern Arizona Healthcare and the Rodel Foundation of Arizona.

The documentary provides an inside look at what it is like to be a classroom teacher. It brings to life the issue of teacher recruitment and retention by telling the personal stories of three teachers in public schools in Arizona.

A panel presentation will follow featuring:

  • Patti Pastor, M.Ed, Flagstaff High School, Culinary & CTE Department Head
  • Joe Gutierrez, Principal, Killip Elementary School
  • Mike Thomas, Vice President of Operations, Kinney Construction Services
  • Lisa Molomot, TEACHING IN ARIZONA filmmaker
  • Tia Lei Tsosie-Begay, 4th Grade Teacher, Los Ninos Elementary (featured in the film)
  • Moderated by: Steve Peru, President, United Way of Northern Arizona
